Martin Luther King frees Memorial Park

A Bad Look
A Good Look

After years of asking, the most promising answer I could get was, ‘We’re meeting on it’.  Not exactly encouraging.
I guess we’ll never know why the barricades have been blocking Memorial Park for so long, but yesterday, the barricades were lifted and paving began today.
In Wednesday night’s Chester City Council meeting, Mayor Butler shared that it was his decision to remove the barriers, and did so as a result of the Martin Luther King statue having been recently placed in the park. He said that opening the street will give people access to the statue, and the library, and provide parking in the park.
If it really took Martin Luther King to open the street, I’m glad he finally got here.

  1. What happens this summer when the kids have camp there or during football season? That portion being blocked gave the kids safe passage to play in either field. I think they should put the barriers back up.

  2. What will happen is the kids will play in the grass and walk on the sidewalk. If there is an event that requires a barrier, put one up, and take it down when the event ends to let traffic pass. Simple!
