I caught up with Spike last year where he signed my copy of "Miracle at St. Anna" DVD |
Spike Lee just completed “If God Is Willing and da Creek Don’t Rise” as a 5 year follow up to “When the Levees Broke” which led me to ask you for your favorite Spike Lee joints.
The results are interesting. “Malcolm X” (50%) is clearly the favorite with “Do the Right Thing”(38%), “School Daze”(33%) and “Love & Basketball”(35%) in a virtual tie for 2nd place. Many folks believe that Denzel Washington earned his Oscar with “Malcolm X” but it was awarded to him for “Training Day”. Surprisingly, the other Denzel films that Spike Lee did, “Mo’ Better Blues”(16%), “He Got Game”(4%), and “Inside Man”(14%) weren’t as popular with the voters.
I thought “She’s Got to Have It”(4%) would get a few more votes although I understand that it wouldn’t be a big favorite. Basketball fans must not be voting because “He Got Game” with Ray Allen (Black Jesus) is great. “She Hate Me”(0%) was a big hit in New York and flopped in Philly but I liked it. I could never really sink my teeth in “Bamboozled”(0%) but I thought Damon Wayans was superb. Mekhi Phifer got his first role in “Clockers”(9%) which is a raw look at gun violence in the hood. “Miracle at St. Anna”(11%) is an awesome war movie for those of you who can stomach that type of horror.
I left off “Girl 6” and “Crooklyn”, probably the two Spike Lee movies I’ll never watch again. And he has a number of great documentaries of which “Jim Brown: All American” is always fun to watch right around this time of year.
Thanks for voting.
I'm not sure why you needed to do a survey on Spike Lee's films. It just seems unnecessary. Are you running out of ideas to survey? You should have a survey on what readers want to have a survey on if you are interested in having an interactive blog.
ReplyDeleteSo anyway, I did take your survey. Malcolm X is my favorite simply because I love Denzel Washington. He did a great job on the movie. Everyone should know he won the Oscar for Training Day. He won the Oscar for the wrong movie because the body of his work is so rich. Now there's a survey for you, Favorite Denzel Washington's Movies. Did you meet him too?
I also picked When the Levees Broke, a very good documentary not a movie.
Tyler Perry’s survey should be a winner. All his movies are good.
I shouldn't have to ask for survey topics. But, if anyone has any suggestions, submissions, topics, photos, interviews, articles, songs, poems, gardening tips, recipes, insider trading info, job openings, used cars, real estate for sale, etc., for the Chester City Blog just send them in. This is the Chester City Blog not the Stefan Roots Blog.
ReplyDeleteGet out a here? That's not true! It's a Stefan Roots Blog! Good luck on getting the insider trading information though.
ReplyDeleteIt really is sad how few submissions I receive. You would think I was charging a fee. If I didn't come up with stuff to post this blog would be nearly empty. What's a Guy to do?
ReplyDeleteWell, I am sure you will think of something to do with that self absorb one man show. Some of us wish we had a venue like yours to make our expressions known and perhaps spread a little propaganda along the way. In the meantime, you keep on inspiring me. You are the reason why I use Honestly. I am honestly going to make an honest man out of you yet. Meaning, my focus is the truth.
ReplyDeleteAnyone can start a blog. They're free. When the Daily Times put out the call for community journalist, I applied. Did you? They are still looking for more.
ReplyDeleteYes, I took your advice. Maybe that idea for a blog wasn't a good idea. I went straight to the top. They were looking for an insider to do something else, a very dicey situation indeed. I like your idea better but I'm still thinking about the other one. You know where I am if you really want to talk. But if I can't get a blog, I can always keep sparing with you.
