Chester Community Charter School To Premiere Art and Music Programs with Grand Opening Exhibit

Chester, PA, October 20, 2014 – On Tuesday, October 21, more than 1,000 students, parents and community members of Chester Community Charter School (CCCS), the largest K-8 charter school in Pennsylvania, are expected to attend, on CCCS’ East campus, the school’s first-ever “Night of the Arts,” a red carpet event wherein students and their families participate in a newly created, interactive art and music program. The event will also be presented on Tuesday, October 28 on CCCS’ West campus, and Tuesday, November 4, on the school’s Upland campus.

A variety of activities at “Night of the Arts” include: “Abstract Art Mobile,” wherein attendees create their own art pieces that will be woven together by CCCS art teachers to represent community; “Cup Song Demonstration,” an activity in which families can learn and understand different rhythmic patterns; “Bucket Band,” a Venezuelan-inspired percussion section; “Song Workshop,” wherein parents and students learn to  sing and play Bill Withers’ “Lean on Me” on the keyboard and, as the finale, a mock concert involving participants in the aforementioned activities.

Through grants awarded by 21st Century Community Learning Centers and the Barbara Berry Foundation, Chester Community Charter School is able to provide arts and music education to its more than 3,000-student population.

Additionally, refreshments, provided by Out of the Ordinary Catering, will be available for all attendees. Desserts by Dana, owned by TLC’s “Cake Boss: Next Great Baker” champion, Dana Herbert, will provide fine art- and music-inspired pastries and cupcakes.
