Harrah's stops Chester scholarships?

Hello CACDC Team,

I regret to inform you that Harrah's is no longer providing scholarships to Chester residents, which is very unfortunate.

If you remember, there was a $100,000 commitment (not sure if anything was ever in writing) where Harrah's was to provide scholarships for students in the City.

The United Way was the agency that would disburse the award each year and a representative from the CACDC was a part of the Selection Committee.

Last year the award was significantly reduced and now it is completely gone.

If there are any changes, I will let you know.  But if you get any inquiries, you can let them know that"Harrah's no longer offers the scholarship".

Thanks,

(sent to me via email)

    1. Probably because they have to start paying taxes. No more spare change laying around.

  2. No word on if the city has addressed this and made a plea or anything

    1. Why? The city's been getting $10 million a year before the new taxes. Doubt if they want to rock that boat over a few scholarships.

  3. Their sacrifice and generosity to Chester youth would come back to them. Too bad! They would have been blessed, in turn.

    1. No. We should have took a stand and made students apply for these scholarships. I'm told no one applied last year. Harrah's has got to believe Chester students aren't interested in their money.
