Monday Club Scholarship information


Dear Scholarship Applicant:

You are invited to apply for a one of following four scholarships sponsored by The Monday Club:  Senator Herman M. Holloway Sr.  / Dr. Woodrow Wilson / James H. Sills, Jr. and Delaware State University. Each scholarship is $1,000 and the purpose of these scholarships is to assist students in furthering their education at a four-year college or university.

THE MONDAY CLUB is considered to be the oldest Men's Social Club in the State of Delaware.  Historically, it is believed to be the oldest in the United States. Currently, its membership includes some of the most prominent citizens in the State of Delaware.  Through its community outreach program THE MONDAY CLUB provides annual scholarship to Delaware students to assist with their college/university funding.

Although THE MONDAY CLUB is a social club, it accepts the civic responsibility of providing financial assistance and human services to all worthy causes.  Community service is one of the principles on which THE MONDAY CLUB was founded.  Therefore, we are strongly committed to helping our young people further their education, as they seek meaningful careers in the world of work.

In order for you to be considered for one of our $1,000 scholarships, you must complete the requirements as indicated on the attached application packet and submit them by Friday, May 02, 2014, to the address cited on the package.

SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS AND CHECKLIST 2014


____ 1.      Applicant must be a senior in a public/private/parochial/vocational high school.  The applicant must be admitted to or seeking admission to a four-year college or university.  If selected for a scholarship the recipient must provide proof of admission and enrollment.

____ 2.    The applicant must be of African-American, Hispanic or Native American descent.

____ 3.    The completed application must be typed or printed legibly!

____ 4.    The applicant must submit three letters of recommendations (two from non-relatives) each in a sealed envelope with the signature of the sender/writer over the flap of each envelope. These letters are to be submitted with the completed application.

____ 5.    The applicant must have a grade point average of at least: 2.75 on a 4.00 scale; An official copy of your transcript, through the first semester of the 2013-2014 school year (i.e., January 2014), must be submitted with the application packet.  See your counselor NOW!  Completion of requirements for high school graduation will be verified if selected as a scholarship recipient.

____ 6.    Essay Submission (minimum of 200 words):  The applicant is to describe his/her community involvement (church, volunteering & tutorial efforts), school activities (student government, honor society, band, sports, etc.) and proposed goals the applicant wants to accomplish in the next 10 years. The essay must be typed, double-spaced and in 12-point font.  The essay will be evaluated on clarity, language usage, content, organization and topic development. The essays will not be returned.   

7.      Submission of a completed and processed copy of the Student Aid Report (SAR).
8.      The finalists of the scholarships will be asked to participate in an interview with members of The Monday Club. The finalists will be notified and an interview will be set up at The Monday Club. 
                                   
9.      Scholarship winners will be notified by May 15, 2014.  All application packet documents submitted become the property of The Monday Club and will not be returned.
