Chester High Boy's Basketball (9-2) defeat Interboro

The Chester Clippers sailed past the Interboro Buccaneers 76-56 before the home fans at the Clip Joint. 

Chester's Tyrell Sturdivant and Mahir Johnson led the way in the opening quarter combining for 17 points, two more than the entire Bucs team. Senior guard Conrad Chambers and sophomore Marquis Collins each contributed four points to complete the 25 point quarter. Chester - 25, Interboro - 15. 

Interboro's Christian Irons found his range in the 2nd quarter scoring 11 of his team high 24 points turning the game into a contest. Sturdivant's seven 2nd quarter points enabled the Clippers to keep their opponents at bay as Chester entered intermission holding a 38-32 advantage. 

After a second trey from Interboro cut the Chester lead to 46-42 at the2:38 mark in the 3rd quarter. Chester delivered the knockout blow with an 11-2 run to end the quarter. While Sturdivant continued his inside dominance with 8 more points, Collins struck from the outside with 7 of his 13 points. The Clippers defense took center stage as the held Irons scoreless in the 3rd quarter. Chester - 57, Interboro - 44. 

The final period mirrored the 3rd as Chester once again outscored their opponents 19-12 for the final margin. Sturdivant added 5 more for a game/season high of 29 points, Johnson floated 4 to join his teammates in double figures with 16 and Chambers contributed two more to finish with 7 points. Senior Da'Saun Campbell came off the bench and put his 4 points in the scoring column, along with the 3 points from Keyonte Watkins on 3 of 4 from the free throw line and two points apiece from 'Gabe' Adesina and freshman Jamar Sudan.

Sturdivant once again padded the stat sheet with a double double by hauling in 13 rebounds, blocking 3 shots and contributing 1 steal. Johnson also made his presence felt with 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist and 1 steal. Da'Saun Campbell came away with his season high of 5 rebounds. Chester continued their strong showing at the free throw line hitting on 73.3 % of their shots (11 of 15).


Chester will return to action on Saturday, January 18th when they travel to Harriton High School to take on Philadelphia's Imhotep in the Kobe Bryant Scholastic Play By Play Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
