Chester was Live from the Newsroom

Tonight, in beautiful downtown Primos, PA, a very interesting discussion was held on Chester's image moderated by Daily Times editor Phil Heron who was joined by a panel of folks who know a few things about Chester.

Mayor Linder always says I'm the fastest picture taker he's ever seen. Sometimes it works, other times not. L-R: Bryan Miller looking ready to go; Rev. Anita Littleton happy to join the panel; Police Commissioner Joseph Bail getting his notes together; Phil Heron following the commissioner's lead; Kenny Covert caught yawning; Mayor John Linder confirming the proper knot on his cravate; and Joe Kane meditating before the big show.

  2. kudos to each of you involved in this roundtable. many remarks are eye-openers, but i'd like to touch on a few...1) the brazen recklessness that criminals display, knowing police are in the immediate vicinity. that speaks to a sense of disregard for law, order, consequences and repercussions of their actions. they OBVIOUSLY have no regard for human life. hats off to da mayor and police chief for doing THEIR jobs. my point is that the criminal elements in this city are intent on doing dirt. to that end, the mayor, chief and the "just us" system MUST send a message to the community that lawlessness won't be tolerated. 2) ryan miller's approach to TRULY cutting off the supply of illegal weapons to the purveyors of dirt in chester. that is the most noble effort yet. just curious if there are any organizations (nra, perhaps?) that will help fund this effort. after all, he's seeking to end illegal purchases, not firearms, per se. if/when he exposes the business element that has blood on its hands, the times can cover THAT story, and bring home a pulitzer. thank me later... 2) mr. ken's comment on the apathy of the community. he absolutely nailed it when he said the young men who do this dirt 'have no hope.' it's tough to have hope if your PARENTS are non-productive, under-employed, absent, etc. couple this with a 'questionable' school system and lack of jobs, training and entrepreneurship, these troubles are indeed the ingredients in gumbo that make for the city's heartburn. by the way, how do you know the school system is suspect? the answer is when the teachers who work there don't LIVE there, nor do their children attend cusd schools. 3) chief bail mentioned the presence of uniformed officers and other agencies on the streets. that will present discomfort for the criminal element, but our law abiding folx appreciate the ability to breathe fresh air, see their children play safely, and enjoy a normal life. you know you're welcome in the community when big momma offers up a plate of greens and animal protein, topped off with tea or kool-aid. ;-) 4) i hope joe kane continues providing mentorship programs to youth to show them a better way. regardless of how other schools test, the focus has to be on moving the underperforming students UP to the acceptable performance levels. college prep kids need to get better, too. there's always room for improvement. bringing up the bottom dwellers needs to be a priority. trade unions, utility companies, hospitals, tech companies, industry HAS to be a part of this equation, too. "working people don't have time for nonsense." truest words ever spoken. 5) mr. roots, continue to be the source of good news. hopefully, the sideline mudslingers will choose to contribute via your platform. more importantly, 'get in the fight.' finally, the complete circle of government/law enforcement, industry/business community, cusd schools, each supported by a community who wants real change, will move this city forward. best wishes...

    1. Mr. McDuffy, there were some great soundbites from Live.

My goal is to become the water-cooler of Chester; that place where folks gather to discuss, argue, learn, reward, chide, expose, and grow. A lot of folks visit the blog everyday to see what's posted. They are looking for new stuff. If you want to reach a large audience targeted to Chester, send me your stuff and I'll post it for free.

Kenny may have said it best, "Get in the fight". If you don't contribute your events, announcements, photos, videos, opinions, updates, etc., to the blog, you're missing a valuable resource to reach the people who want to know what you have.

It's the best bargain in town.
