Author writes kid's book on diversity

Meet author and illustrator Calida Garcia Rawles at the J. Lewis Crozer Library on Tuesday, August 6th from 12 to 2 p.m. Ms. Rawles will host a special storytime featuring her children’s picture book, Same Difference.

Same Difference addresses the sensitive and sometime divisive issues of beauty and identity, including diversity, skin complexion, and hair texture for children ages 4-8. The book encourages children to appreciate and love themselves, emphasizing that no single physical feature is better or worse and that what distinguishes someone is what makes her beautiful and unique.

Calida Garcia Rawles studied painting at Spelman College (later serving as artist-in-residence) and earned a master of arts at New York University. She has exhibited her paintings nationally and abroad, exploring the concepts of beauty and identity. Ms. Rawles lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two daughters.
