TeamChildren gives away computers in Chester

On May 28, Robert Toporek of Team Children asked me to share an email listing computers they have available to sell. I didn’t share the email because over the years, I only know one person to take him up on the offer from Chester.

I’ve plugged TeamChildren in the Chester Spotlight paper, on the blog several times, and in a couple videos, but no one seems to take discount refurbished computers seriously around here (although I’ve bought about 5 of them since I’ve known TeamChildren).

Just two days after he send me the email, I read in the Phoenixville paper that TeamChildren has donated 25 computers to the Delaware County Literacy Council in Chester.

On May 30, TeamChildren, an Audubon-based nonprofit organization, donated 25 high quality refurbished computers to the Delaware County Literacy Council in Chester, PA, helping more than 325 adults with learning challenges get on the path to obtaining a GED, gaining employment and even going to college.

Three easy steps to receive a computer:

1 Write a letter: Each family is asked to write a letter/essay explaining why they cannot afford a new computer and how a computer will help their children and family.  We love great letters! Your letter helps TeamChildren document how we are making a difference.  Please include your name, address, phone number, email address, and if you have one, a picture of your family. We love great letters!

2 Contribute Financially: From $75 -$200 everyone is asked to pay an administrative fee. Please enclose a minimum deposit of $50 or the full amount of the computer you choose (check or money order). The fee is based on the type of computer you choose. The amount you contribute is only a small portion of what it actually costs to help you receive a computer.  To raise the additional funds, we are reaching out to area businesses and foundations.  Select the computer you can afford and pay your balance when you come to pick it up.

3 Volunteer: Each family that receives a computer is requested to volunteer for two hours on the day you pick up your computer.  If this is a problem, you can request an alternative form of volunteering.

Everyone who submits a letter will receive a computer.
