NBA + TNT = BET

I’m always amused that every kid bouncing a basketball in the ‘hood wants to be in the NBA, but hardly any of them watch the NBA.

It’s the old guys like me who are glued to the flat screen this time of year as it gets hot and heavy in the NBA playoffs.

As far as I’m concerned, watching the NBA on TNT is the real Black Entertainment Television.

Let’s take tonight for example. LeBron James and his supporting cast from Miami will try to send the overachieving Chicago Bulls one step closer to early spring vacation with a win tonight. Only if it were that simple. Although undermanned, the Bullish Bulls have done everything short of laying down a wrestling mat and surrounding the court with ropes as they push and shove Miami around, in what some may call - BasketBrawl.

Game two features that 6 foot 11 inch freak of nature who plays the 15 position. That’s right, Kevin Durant is a 1-2-3-4 and 5 and is trying his best to be a one man wrecking crew against the savvy, physical, well coached Memphis Grizzlies who play basketball the old fashioned way - with big men.

I expect to be at it again tomorrow night when the old dudes from San Antonio have to contend with those fancy youngsters from northern Cali. The Golden State Warriors feature one of the best ball handling shooters the game has ever seen in Stephen Curry who is driving that Frenchman Tony Parker crazy.  And then there’s Carmelo Anthony and his Knicks trying to figure out what to do with Indiana.

Throw in a little halftime show with Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kenny ‘the jet’ Smith, I certainly justify my cable bill on nights like this.

  3. Believe it or not, most parents just enjoy watching their children play, no matter what league it is.
