Can Chester tax alcohol?

After Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter casually raised the tax on alcohol by the glass last week, I wondered how that would work in Chester.

It seems so easy to tax alcohol, tobacco, and other products of vice without upsetting people too much.

Imagine the extra money we’d collect from all the drinks sold at Ginn’s and Gold Room. Actually, Harrah’s and PPL Park would be the big contributors.

The officials in the town of West Chester are having that very discussion as they are seeking to a tax on alcohol.

I’m not sure how the Mayor of Philadelphia makes it look so easy but the following article on West Chester’s challenges suggest that it’s not that simple.
