Chester’s sloppy play finally catches up to them

The parade has been cancelled for this afternoon in Chester, but the Main Line fire trucks will probably come out for a surprise day of overtime.

Lower Merion took it to the Chester basketball team last night in the state championship game.

Chester hasn’t been too impressive in their last few outings and were saved only by their stifling defense. Lower Merion cut through that defense like a hot knife through butter on their way to a near blow out victory to walk away with the big trophy.

People are coming up with some creative excuses for Chester’s loss. Some say the players were reading too many of the their own headlines; their florescent sneakers weren’t broken in yet; the coaches were too overdressed; we didn’t have a student section to match Lower Merion’s; they wanted next year’s team not to have to worry about the pressure of a 4-pete;  or, Lower Merion was just better.

When Dalembert backed our guy down the lane and slammed it home with no respect for the former State Champs, I knew it was over.

Chester had a great run. Better luck next year.
