Students from Stetser Elementary School and Frederick Douglass Christian School lined the front of City Hall’s community room Thursday as they took turns reciting a few lines about Chester’s 31 mayors.
To most of you, that previous paragraph probably means very little. It's written to set the stage for the rest of the article in the Daily Times. Not a lot of meat to chew on.
But for me, it’s a sign that my work was not in vain.
Here’s my story...
I admit to not being a good teacher, so I would bribe my students with money.
One of my lessons was designed to help them understand who represented them politically. I’d list President, Vice President, State Senator, State Representative, and Mayor on one side of the board, and George Bush, Dick Chaney, Dominic Pileggi, Thaddeus Kirkland, and Wendell Butler on the other side of the board, in random order.
I’d pay any student $1 if they could match the office with the name and reduce payment by 25 cents for each subsequent try.
I NEVER had to pay!
Why? Because every kid in all those classrooms was convinced Thad Kirkland was the mayor.
I suggested to every principal that along side the Martin Luther King photos in all the schools, to consider putting at least the mayor up there, too.
I wish someone had told me about the event yesterday. I would have loved to have been there. I wonder who told the Daily Times? Us bloggers are such an afterthought.
This is great, not a story about Clipper basketball, thanks
ReplyDeleteIt's still basketball season. Beware, there's a basketball story a-comin.
Deletewell well well not another story about Chester basketball . thanks
ReplyDeleteI wonder what was written for Jack Nacrelli?
ReplyDeleteIt would be cool if they'd publish what was said about all the mayors. I'll publish it hear if anyone is listening.
Deletei believe in your video that you mentioned that you wish folks would keep politics out of the blogs.
DeleteI said that the opening of Stakeys became a political discussion.
DeleteWe love politics talk on this blog. It's what people respond to.
I wish folks talked more about politics. I wish politicians talked more to folks.
