I didn't realize it''s been 8 months since I did one of these. The past 8 months have been a tad hectic with losing a job, starting a new job, traveling, finishing the book, and stuff. I'm am happy that I remembered how to do this thing. It's so easy to forget how all this stuff works to produce one of these videos. If you like it, let me know. If you think it's crap, let me know. I'll be doing another one regardless of how you respond.
First, I'd like to say that I've always appreciated the effort that you put forth on your blog; whether copy and paste or not, it take time and committment. I would like to hear what people think should be done with with Ruth Bennett home before something is set in stone. Sometimes a "laymans" idea is the better than the persons whose in the position to make the decision.
1. Hurry. Fund raising should have started months ago. Form a tenant committee. 2. There are two buildings. The house is being converted into office space and the Wilson Nursery is being renovated to serve as a school again. 3. Determine market value for rental space. 4. Since the property isn't taxed, the only ongoing expenses will be utilities and upkeep which should be covered by rent. 5. To start, barter office space for furniture, an alarm system, paint, curtains, appliances. cleaning supplies, etc. 6. For the nursery, there are so many options for all that space. There's talk that the Nia Center will put a nursery school in there but they can't use all that space and can't afford the entire building. Maybe a charter school, trade school, or a place for training. On weekends the auditorium can be rented out for events. On Sundays, a church can rent the space.
That's enough to get someone started.
PPL Park is one block away. This would serve as a great executive office space for them or a place they can have small events. The possibilities are endless but time is slipping away.
That's cool. I don't expect that everyone is keeping up with every post. Stuff gets buried fast with the amount of content on the site. The video is a good way to recap the top stories, give more insight and opinion, and show off photos that didn't make the site.
I like CCity Tv and always appreciate your efforts to communicate to the community. Hope you will continue to update us thru CCity Tv. Confused about the Ruth Bennett home. If historial, wouldn't the Historial Society be involved in the control/watchdog for the building?
it's not on the national historic register....no plaque out front. I'm not sure what the designation is but it was enough for the state to put up some bucks.
I love CCity Tv! Good stuff.
ReplyDeleteThanks.

Man I'm glad one of these came up. I'm so far behind on news from the site. Keep it up!
