Delaware County Pennsylvania has to be the only place in America where the only crime people commit is not paying child support.
The Most Wanted list never has a burglar, rapist, tax evader, embezzler, murderer, child molester, or car thief - just child support scaffolds.
That can't be right, can it?
Are all the other criminals too good to have their photos in the paper or is child support the crime that is causing the most devastation in our county?
Although it's one of the most visited links on this blog, the Most Wanted tab is grossly under represented based on the variety of crime that goes on in the county.
What can we do to identify other criminals?
I agree with you, Stefan, that there should be more serious criminals featured in Most Wanted. However, allow me to share with you how criminal it is to be the parent of a child and needing child support. In 1988, I found myself a single mother. My ex husband was abusive to me, but the day he lifted his hand to strike my 9 month old child, that was it. He went to jail. From that day in November, I struggled to make sure my child came first. Dealing with Domestic Relations was a nightmare. I appeared EVERY TIME that a hearing was scheduled. He did not. I had to be the parent who has to tell my child that we could not afford to buy a happy meal, and was the parent that had to work two jobs.. Because I felt it was important to give my child a decent chance in life, education was important. Therefore, I didn't have a vehicle for a long time. Not only does this man owe my daughter over $29,000.00 in back child support, he did not pay 1/2 of education, medical bills, braces, clothing, etc. add that all up and he owes $40,000.00. Not paying Child Support is a federal crime. However, the courts are so overwhelmed, that getting Child Support is harder to get than participating in a triathlon with one leg.
ReplyDeleteSo, imagine the amount of money it takes for the courts to get a Dead Beat parent to pay their responsibilities? From the postage on the hundreds of letters sent to me and my ex husband, the salary of every Master, Judge, court personnel, attorneys, etc. now add in the amount owed to my child. NOW times this by the hundreds and hundreds of Dead Beat parents. We are talking a lot of money that these "Criminals" to pay and a lot do not.
Yes...the Most Wanted should have more "real" criminals listed, but what about Dead Beat parents?
Oh, and let me end this by telling you that Domestic Relations closed my case due to inactivity (aka not being able to collect from the Dead Beat parent)...not due to lack of years and years of trying on my part. The less money on Domestic Relations books equals more federal money they receive.

ReplyDeleteIncredible! Here is a person that tried to do the right thing and ended up getting the short end of the stick! Domestic relations is a mess. Its a disgrace! How come the federal govt isnt doing more for the good parents?!
