How should Mayor John Linder get around town?

There has been considerable comments on the vehicle Mayor Linder drives around town.
Should he:
  1. Drive his private car and take the customary car allowance?
  2. Drive a city owned vehicle?
  3. Be chauffeured by a city police officer when traveling on city business?
  4. Stay in his office.

Or, submit another suggestion.

  1. What dif does it makes... There is to much crime for us to be worried about his ways of travel... If he's doing his job as mayor then we all should be happy!!!!

    1. It makes a lot of dif. We want to know how he is spending the cities money.
If you do the math $400.00 a month for 48 months equals $19,200.00. I think that 2012 Chevy Tahoo cost more than 19 grand. So he is cost the city more money.

  2. He should drive his own car and get a car allowance. The question what is he doing now? Is he driving a city truck and receiving a car allowance?

    1. The mayor does not receive a car allowance. He removed that expense from the city budget in January.

  3. mayor linder should have his own car! he is not a tax payer in the city all mayors have been driving there own car for years. City owned cars =free gas. a mayor with NO expenses now thats the life!! free car and gas we all should run for mayor. and become renters!!and the crime goes on.

  4. He should have the option of driving a city vehicle. Let's not dwell over the small things so much.

  5. as "mayor", i believe that it would be appropriate to have a city vehicle and handle city business and... in the case of a city emergency.

  6. A better question is should you remove that creepy cartoon? Granted it looks better than the real thing but creepy nonetheless.

  7. I think he should do #1 without the car allowance, since the city is in poor financial distress, and #3 when doing city business.

  8. Why should he be able to have a city car. He is spending a lot of tax payers money. Why did he re hire Whitney White as a consultant to the city? Is he that important? Where did he get that money from? I see why they say we will be broke and I see why he won't pay the fire fighters. He reminds me of Lamont Sanford "Big Dummy".

  9. what difference does it make what he drives,if he drives a tank, school bus, tractor trailer who cares.first of all citys apply for funding called "grants" they use this type of funding as needed.so if there are needs for vehicles, equipment etc. they buy what is needed.boy !!! it amazes you hear people whining they want change soon as change happens .... here comes the whiners and complainers.if you dont like whats goin on,they have u -hauls for rent, there are thousands of other cities to live in

  10. Correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that the tax payers voted to remove all vehicles from elected officials sometime in the mid 90's. It is a big deal because the tax payers are paying for a car note and gas unless it was purchased under the police grant which means one less police vehicle on duty. We are also paying insurance as tax payers and for all who ride in the vehicle whom are not City employees have the right to sue God forbid he is ever in an accident. So, yes all taxpayers should be concerned when we are still a third class city and spending frivolously. If he needs a ride to an emergency, I'm sure the police can pick him up as they've done in the past..Examples start from the top. Oops

    1. Mr. Linder can you explain why we voted to stop having elected officials with city vehicles and you have one?

  11. He should drive his own car and get a car allowance.

Instead, he secures a brand spanking new Tahoe. Loaded. Rumor has it he wanted Red Lights and Sirens, but cannot have them by law. So instead, he had them outfit it with a bunch of yellow lights. Still has police radios in it though. Looks just like the Tahoes the guys wearing gold in the police department are driving.
What makes this a huge perk? All the other costs associated with driving a vehicle are also paid for by the taxpayer... so there really is no allowance... and if he crashes it by his own fault, any lawsuits and damages will also be paid for by the city. If a city owned vehicle hits you... you bet everyone involved is going to sue, too!
I also read recently about how the city is trying to be green. How are you being green by driving around a big gas guzzling SUV? All the gas is paid for by the taxpayer, repairs, maintenance, parts, insurance, car washes, EVERYTHING is paid for by the taxpayer.
And why the need for the 5-0 look alike?

It's hard to defend something that glares wasteful spending all over it. Those lights are expensive and not necessary. That truck alone is expensive and not necessary. It's costly to fill up with gas. It adds to the insurance expense. What would be an X amount of money per month or year expense is now an ??? per month expense because now everything about it is on the taxpayers dime... not just a portion of it if he just received a car allowance.

City will be back to being broke before you know it. Taxes going up, quality of life still going down...

  12. What is the purpose of having a new truck Mr. Linder. All of this for what? Even if the grant paid for the truck there are a lot of other expenses that come with having a BRAND NEW TRUCK. As the top city official you should not put yourself first.
