Black & Latino Youth Conference at Widener 5/19

Can we put together, here in the City of Chester, a process where by we create young Black & Latino scholars and community leaders like we do sports stars?  I think we can do this.
We need your help and support....we need your ideas, prayers, love, and YOUR PRESENCE at the Conference.

The objective of this conference is to begin the discussion and perhaps create a positive forum by which we can consistently engage the TOP academic and behavioral performers among this cohort and positively impact their personal, educational, and cultural development.

The mission is to impact ALL of our young males but we want to start by inviting and engaging THOSE young men who YOU have already identified as scholars and with strong academic promise.  We want to develop a strategy where as by the time the young man gets to his senior year, he is STILL a scholar and leader in the community.

Think about it.  We identify those great young athletes very early on in athletic competition.   We coddle, support, and socially celebrate their athletic prowess.  We send them to all sorts of campus, athletic tournaments, and other supportive activities to develop his athletic talents.  It should not be a surprise that by the time these young me get to their senior  year in high school, they are very successful athletes.

But what about those young men that the school district, teachers, principals, clergy, parents and perhaps even YOU have identified as "smart, intelligent, a leader, with excellent grades and academically GIFTED".  What do we have for them?  Who is making sure that THESE young men REMAIN "smart, intelligent, with excellent grades, and STILL GIFTED" by the time they get to their senior years?

Right now, we have space reserved at Widener University and have targeted Saturday May 19th (the birthday of Malcolm X) as the date to start this dialogue.  Our plan is gather from 8am until 3pm and get something started.

I need help from you is help in the following areas:

1. Identify 50 young men ages 12-17 (ALREADY IDENTIFIED AS HAVING DEMONSTRATED STRONG ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE & BEHAVIOR)

2.  Identify other COMMITTED Adult Men in the community who can come out , join us, and interact with these young men

3.  Leaders in the community that have relationships with organizations connected with these young men who will help us spread the word, recruit, and recommend (refer) so we can have a good turn out.

SAVE THE DATE AND STAY TUNED FOR MORE INFORMATION.  LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN PARTICIPATE IN THIS ACTIVITY.
