Sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't.
It would send the wrong message to other districts if the state was to bail out Chester Upland, says Gov Corbett
- That’s pretty clear.
The district is the most heavily taxed in Delaware County based on its ability to pay and is annually one of the highest-taxed school districts in the state, according to the lawsuit.
- Confusing.
More than 50 percent of the assessed properties in the school district's area are exempt from real estate taxes, the lawsuit said.
- So, are the remaining 50% the ones that are heavily taxed?
Also, delinquent taxes in the district are regularly 29 percent off of taxes assessed. Many of the properties in the school district that accumulate delinquent taxes do not sell at delinquent tax sales, and raising tax levies in the predominately poor district merely increases the delinquency rate, the lawsuit said.
- One-third of the people who should be paying school taxes don’t.
- Selling delinquent tax properties don’t recover back taxes.
- Raising taxes will increase tax delinquencies.
Tax revenue makes up about 18 percent of the school district's budget, but because of delinquencies, funds may not always be realized, Mann said in her letter.
- Taxes make up 18% of the budget, but they never get all 18% of the money.
I don't think anybody gets this school district???
ReplyDeleteCorrection. Now I think she's saying that a lot of properties with delinquent taxes don't get sold, therefore there's a lot of money held up in empty buildings and abandoned lots.
ReplyDeleteMann need to get out!! She been on the board for 16 years and still no progress has been made...no excuses.
ReplyDeleteSo true.
ReplyDeleteOk so 18% of the taxes aren't being paid because of delinquent properties...what about the other 87%...you have property owners renting property in this city aren't they paying property taxes? and if not shouldn't the city be going after them for said taxes? What about the business owners in the city that were here before the KOZ credit, don't they have to pay taxes? and does that go toward the school district, I say it's high time someone in this city, get down to the business of collection and enforcement...the sad part is this city is exploited by everyone who comes through it and no one in power stops it or they are the exploiters...and the children and the city suffers
ReplyDeleteHow does the city replace Brian Waren with Charles Thompson some one who does not have a degree and is getting paid $55,000.00. Did they post this job or is it because Charles is related to Linder?
ReplyDeleteIs Wanda Mann a property owner tax paying citizen?
ReplyDeleteYes Wanda man payed taxes and she owns her home on Kerlin St. The question is does Councilwoman West pay taxes or is she still living in the LV? Is John Linder paying taxes cause his house is not in his name? Or is Liz paying taxes cause she is living in her sons house? Do some research
