School of Nursing offers hands-on opportunities to guide the future
Chester, Pa. – On Friday, Oct. 28 about 100 high school students from the tri-state region will come to Widener University to participate in the 11th annual Nursing Workshop, a hands-on experience sponsored by School of Nursing.
This year – for the fist time – students will be able to tour the brand new School of Nursing building, which will include a hands-on demonstration in the state-of-the-art simulation lab.
There will also be a demonstration by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Specialized Medical Response Team (SEPA SMRT) where an emergency disaster hospital, “Portable Hospital” will be set up on Memorial Field, behind Old Main and Christiana Care Hospital will land a helicopter on Memorial Field and host meet and greet with a hazardous materials crew.

The high school students really understand what it takes to be a nurse after attending this workshop. Its one of the only integrated workshops offered in the region.
“The workshop is a great opportunity for students to immerse themselves into the nursing field,” said Linda O’Kane, enrollment coordinator for the School of Nursing.
“It helps them become more aware of all of the possibilities in the field.”
