I was asked to moderate last nights town-hall meeting hosted by the Grace Community Resource and Empowerment Center but unfortunately could not honor that commitment.
However, I read that the keynote speaker said what I’ve been saying for some time regarding violence in our city.
Eugene Schneeberg, the director of the Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships for the U.S. Department of Justice, used his speech to encourage Chester residents, reminding them that Chester is not the only city facing violence problems.
“ Just about every city and every town throughout the country, people are struggling with the same issues,” he said. “ It’s a national problem.”
It’s so sad to see the violent mentality of our young people. It’s even sadder that no one has figured out how to stop it; not in Philly, Chicago, LA, New York, Atlanta, Memphis, Cleveland, or Upper Darby. In my opinion, it’s not a political problem as much as it’s a social, psychological, and family problem. Lack of recreation, employment, and food doesn’t help either.
