SIS Fitness owner Melanie Marchand is a long time friend who always has me host her Open House events at the gym. My job is to play music, promote the club, encourage new members, and make announcements.
Yesterday, the event closed with Cherita Andrews, a contestant from NBC’s Biggest Loser TV show. Cherita gave a passionate speech to a very attentive group of SIS members, visitors, and staff.
SIS Fitness (pronounced S-I-S, short for Sister In Shape) is a full service gym that also offers group fitness classes and personal training. Melanie has been in her current location for 5 years right near Broad and Olney in Philadelphia. A couple years ago, she branched out to open a sit-in cafe that serves only healthy choice items in the same building that her gym is located.
Melanie is one of a very few black women who solely own and operate their own fitness center. Although her focus is improving many aspects of middle aged black women through fitness, Melanie has a large array of personal training clients from celebrities to politicians of all ages, races, and gender.
Melanie will be one of the honorees in the Business Person of the Year Luncheon sponsored by Desiree Potts’ Choices organization on October 8 at the Holiday Inn Select. Other honorees are Mike Gray, Rick Wilcox, Cory Long, Micah Sims, Joel Austin, Leonard Black, and Emlyn Degannes.
For more information contact Desiree at 610.800.2453 or one of the honorees.
