Who do you Call for Peace on the Street?

I’m flattered that so many of you use the Chester City Blog as a source of community information.
I try my best to post all the events that are sent to me and those that I run across in my travels.
Often, I’m sent questions and comments on items that have been posted. Most times, I’m just as curious as you. All I can do is to direct you to the source.
I’ve put together the top 3 inquiries received in the past 10 days and my best guess as who to contact to get answers.
  • Ramble on the Riverfront: Contact the City of Chester Councilwoman Walker-Smith 610.447.7728
  • 7th Street Basketball courts: Contact the City of Chester Brain Warren 610.447.7784
  • Peace on the Streets August 25: Contact the City of Chester Councilman John Linder 610.447.7753

  1. Wrong on Peace on the Streets. This event is spearheaded by Councilwoman Walker Smith and the great Recreation Staff. John Linder lost the Violence Prevention grant and there is no longer a grant in the department. The city is sure going to miss her. I know for sure I will but like with everything in Chester the good and educated leave. Why is tere no plan to keep the young and educated here in Chester. I would guess there free spirit thinking and independence does not allow them to conform to system standards. I wish her the best of luck in her new career

  2. PLEASE DONT GIVE JOHN LINDER CREDIT FOR SOMETHING HE IS NOT APART OF. PEACE ON THE STREETS IS COMING OUT OF THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT. JOHN HAS NOT HAD ANYTHING NEW FROM HIS DEPARTMENT. STEFAN WHERE DID YOU GET THAT FALSE INFO. I BET YOU JOHN WILL BE THERE ON SATURDAY SMH. THANK YOU COUNCILWOMAN WALKER SMITH.

  3. I get information from whoever sends it to me. I wrote in the post that the contact names were my BEST GUESS. Since Linder is Mr. Public Safety, I figured this was his sandbox. But if the events are considered recreation, than it makes since to fall on Walker-Smith.

    Now I'm really confused.

Saturday is the Unity in the Community March which is not organzied by the City. The Concerned Citizens of Chester are doing that march.

I was led to believe that the city was kicking in with a Peace on the Street concert on Thursday but I've seen no annoucement of artist or location. Isn't that what the $10,000 to Clear Channel was for?

Somebody help me understand what's going on.

And, I would hope that Councilman Linder would show up on Saturday, along with the Mayor and the others on council.

  4. I think the event is going on all week long with CCOC doing workshops and the Peace March. I think this is a partnership with the city. The city is bring in an artist and giving away school supplies and CCOC is giving away uniforms. I think it is a whole week of events with CCOC and Chester working together. John Linder should be involved because this is violence prevention not just an event. I really consider you to be one of the most intelligent people in our city. You seem to analyze things in an intelligent way regardless of the political party. I would like for you to really take a look at this election coming up and make your opinion on who you think would be best to run the city for the next 4 years. Stefan, I am afraid that if the Democrats get into office financially who can hold it down. I like Ms. Blackwell but she does not have any administration experience to be a controller, liz williams does not have any administrative experience. Nafis is so young and he needs more aging to be in the position. John has not done anything while in office and he messed up the Charter school. I would love to hear your evaluation of all the candidates.

  5. I think we shouldn't be thinking about what's going on. People can't participate in events they don't know anything about.

Regarding my views on the political climate, I'll hold off on my opinions until we get closer. But, I like your take on it all.
