Heroes Today Chester receives grant funding

The only 100% veteran social service agency in the city of Chester, Heroes Today, receives funding further its mission
Since there has not been any 100% veteran social service agency in the city of Chester since WWII, in November 2010 Heroes Today began assembling the Veteran Outreach Committee (VOC).
The committee is charged with assisting the organization with identifying, advocating for, supporting the families of and creating programs/outreach that will ensure the empowerment and success of the veterans who are in distress in this area and also educate the community on veteran issues.
The Committee acting on this charge compiled an aggressive campaign and titled it "Restoring the Forgotten." The committee then submitted a proposal to the Presbyterian General Assembly SDOP Committee in February 2011. This funding would allow the organization to acquire office space, train the committee and have them certified as peer specialists and also WRAP facilitators, secure materials to reach out effectively to the community and recruit, assist, help and mentor other veterans.
April 2011 the SDOP Committee came to Chester and met with the entire Veteran Outreach Committee and the Board of Directors to discuss the possibilities of the project.
May 2011 it was official, we had a grant approval!
June 2011 Heroes Today identified, negotiated and secured office space in Chester and also began the process for committee members to become certified peer specialists and WRAP facilitators / trainers. Our founder / CEO Fred Johnson also became an elected member serving on the Pennsylvania Peer Support Coalition Steering Committee.
This is a significant milestone for the committee and the organization as a whole. We have been able to accomplish a great amount of work in less than one year. Our aggressive movement and unwavering commitment has proved to be very effective in our mission to assist the veterans and the families of veterans that we serve.
