Chester announces 6th annual Scholar Awards

Chester, PA – The City of Chester, Mayor’s Office is currently seeking nominations for the Mayor’s 6th Annual Scholars Awards taking place on June 30, 2011.  

Each year, this festive occasion is held to recognize the academic achievements, community service and/or college acceptance of students in grades 8-12 who reside in the City of Chester and attend Chester public schools.
Student honorees are selected through an application process, based on the following criteria: 3.0 or higher grade point average for three consecutive quarters; letter of recommendation from a teacher, mentor and/or community leader; proven outstanding community service; and collegiate attainment by seniors for fall 2011 along with a written essay submission.  
“The purpose of this event is to celebrate the high scholastic and community achievements of the city’s greatest treasure, the youth,” says Mayor Wendell N. Butler, Jr.  “Some of our top deserving students will be honored at this banquet.”
Applications are available at Chester City Hall, 1 Fourth Street, between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:30 pm.  All applications must be completed in full and returned to City Hall, no later than Friday, June 3, 2011.
