Students at Widener support Cancer Awareness at 2nd Annual Relay for Life

Chester, Pa. – Student, faculty, and staff from Widener University along with members of the community will host its second Relay for Life event, Friday, April 1 on Memorial Field behind Old Main on 14th Street in an effort to raise awareness of the fight against cancer during National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life is an event that takes place around the world celebrating those who have battled cancer and honoring those who lost the fight. It was first brought to campus in 2010 by the Presidential Service Corps Class of 2013 as their class project. However, many of the students wanted to keep it going this year. So far participants have raised $8,000 and growing, which will all go to the American Cancer Society.

Beginning at 7 p.m. Relay for Life participants will join for opening remarks from Isaac Collins, the Widener Football Coach. Following the opening ceremony there will be a survivor lap, and then a fight back lap. A luminaria ceremony will take place at 9 p.m.

The participants will continue walking until 7 a.m. During that time there will be a number of activities including a dunk tank, t-shirt making, a performance by the Widener Dance Company, games, and live music.

The registration tent will open at 6 p.m. For more information visit, http://www.relayforlife.org/relay/ or to give to Widener’s Relay for Life, http://relay.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLFY11PA?fr_id=30904&pg=entry.

(I think those times are A.M., not P.M.)
