I learned not to mess with mother nature -- especially one named Robin.
I came home one day to find a lot of dry grass and twigs at the foot of my back door. I was puzzled until I looked up and found that a nest was being formed right on top of my porch light.
I thought it was a bad location since it’s inches from my back door and about as high as I am tall. I figured it wasn’t a good nesting spot since I’m in and out of that door a lot.
I took the nest down several times but Robin came back each time, determined that she was building there.
I finally gave in figuring her developer convinced her that I was a good risk despite my early reservations.
Robin is a master builder and only took about a full day to put her nest up. She left for a couple days having me think that she wasn’t going to live there and was maybe preparing for an open house sometime soon for some other expecting hen.
But, yesterday, I saw her sitting up there with a special glow on her face that made me curious.
While she was gone earlier today, I took a peek inside the nest and found that we’re having triplets.
I’m still a little uneasy having her right at my back door, but Robin and I have developed an understanding. When I come in the yard, she flies over to the fence until I come in the house, then she hovers back to the nest. On the way out, I let her know the door is about to open and she does the same thing until the car leaves the driveway.
Stay tuned for more maternity ward theatrics from my back porch. I think it’s about to get real interesting.
So it is written, so let it be done!!! You can't mess with Mother Nature

Congrats on the triplets!!! And keep us posted!!!
Congratulations! Actually your gal Robin is pretty smart-she's safe from most predators where she is up on your lamp. Once a robin built a nest in my azaleas right outside my kitchen window. We had great fun watching the process right through the hatching of the baby birds. Alas one morning shortly after I looked out the window and found the nest empty. Feathers scattered on the ground beneath the bush told the sad tale.
