Chester Schools Assessment Test Results

I’ve been seeing a couple schools in town displaying banners regarding their Assessment Test Results, but I’ve never seen the numbers.
Here they are.
To make the grade under No Child Left Behind, Pennsylvania now requires at least 63 percent of all students to be proficient or higher in reading and 56 percent to be proficient or higher in math.
Below are test results listing percent proficient or higher from last spring for all Chester schools.
You can formulate your own conclusions.

  1. It's a struggle just to have the students come take the test much less take the test seriously.

  2. I still blame the parents....if they teach from almost birth (I say before) then OUR children Will excel, EDUCATION STARTS AT HOME!!!!!!!! Before the child ever sets foot in a SCHOOL. Reading to them is a great start, everyday.

  3. There a several reason why the results look this way. The MAIN reason I believe is the HOME. I would bet my pay check that 90% of the Radnor students live in not only two parent household but their mother and father are married.SMH

  4. To Anonymous 1. I am glad I did not have to take those tests. I understand the student frustration. It is a shame that their test results do not reward or punish them personally, but they impact the schools and staff immensly. Good teachers have lost jobs over test results. Not fair. If the students saw some personal benefit or reward for doing well on the tests, they would propably care more.

  5. Students ast Chester Charter are rewarded if they scored in the high percetage on the PSSA. They were actually given $125 gift cards.

  6. Thanks for sharing. My hairbrained ideas are not so bad afterall.

For that kinda money, I may start hiring myself out like Lip does on the tv show Shameless and take the tests for the students. You think anyone will notice?

  7. Keep in mind that not all students are at grade level in reading and math. Therefore a lot of students are presented with an assessment way above their instructional level. That is comparable to an English speaking person being assessed with a German language test, knowing that they speak nor comprehend not a 'lick' of German It is totally incomprehensible. This is not an excuse, but reality. Our students are not at grade level to begin with, so they are not receiving a true assessment of their Current Academic Ability!!!... No child left behind? First they have to catch up!!

  8. Dear Readers don't be misled by Chester's Community Charters School Test scores. My daughter goes to the East Campus 'yes she scores advanced on the PSSA, but still there are too many children not even scoring average. And yes it starts at home but in reality the children are in school a majority of the day. So the teachers should be held accountable as well as the parents. P.S Use that money for more qualified teachers instead of making Footlocker rich.

  9. There was time when concerned educators argued that standardized tests were biased against inner city minorities because they did not have questions that reflect their environmental conditions. I think the district is more concerned with trying to prep our kids for passing these tests instead of actually teaching them. A number of school age students who attend my church are always complaining about being bored in school. I was just wondering how many adults in the city would be able to attain 80% on the 11th grade PSSA reading test.

  10. The show Smarter Than a Fifth Grader proves that nationwide.
