'Any Given Saturday' on the Daily Times front page

Saturday April 9, 2011

Saturday April 16, 2011

Some say, ‘If it bleeds, it leads’.
Some say, ‘Bad news is the only news’.
Some say, ‘The Daily Times only prints the bad in Chester’.
It’s certainly not a good look to don the front page two Saturdays in a row, but you can’t blame the Daily Times for Chester’s crime...can you?

  1. I can blame you for feeding into it! We already have it on the front page. Why do you need to re-post it? And please no BS response!

  2. Thanks for not blaming me. It is not my fault.

  3. That's not really an unbiased assessment for you to make, Stefan because your blog has a featured spot on the Delco times news site. So, I'm not sure if you are being fair.

On another note, I read a lot of the area news papers including the Enquirer and I would like to point out that all of them seem to have a "beef" with Chester City. That is, when a crime happens in West Chester, they print "such & such crime happened in Chester County". When a crime happens in Chester City they print that "such & such crime happened in Chester".

At both times, they print "Chester", and 98% of the reading audience think both crimes happened in Chester city because most people are not aware of the difference. Most newspaper reporters know the difference, but for some reason they purposely misled the reader.

Don't believe me? Take a look at some of the last months articles on the enquirer's website and note the locations they mention.

I hate to say it, but this is a classic case of hidden racism.

  4. Fair or not, the last two Saturday front pages looked almost identical.

i have no love for the Daily Times. I don't buy the paper and had a bad employment experience. But they like the blog, see value in it, and promote it. I'm flattered.

I like a lot of the people who work there and think they do a great job with what they have to work with.

In my opinion, the press doesn't have a beef with Chester. Chester just continues to provide great headlines. It sells papers.

  5. Hidden racism is true. Thanks Anonymous 2 for your insight. Stefan Roots, you are part of the problem. I see no objectivity here.

  6. What is THE problem I am a part of? I don't own a gun.

  7. "The pen is mightier than the sword." You own a pen figuratively speaking. You have a computer where you write your subjective views. You know. You're not that dumb!

  8. So, when you count more negative stories than positive stories on this blog you may lable me as a problem.

Why do the positive stories hardly get any comments?

Because people love to respond to bad news.

That's the point of this blog post of negative front pages.

Thanks for proving to be one of the ones that make it so.

  9. Question!! Has anyone that's knocking Stefan giving him any good news to post?

  10. You are an A hole and that will never change. You are right. We got to get the bad news from some place. It might as well be you. Lol and respectfully speaking, some of us already know where to go for the good news even if this paper won't print them or put them online.

  11. Thanks, but I am not bothered by their comments.

In my 5 years of doing this, I’ve learned that the nature of this community is that we complain more than we compliment. We talk about problems more than we talk solutions. We’re more apathetic than activist. We settle for mediocrity instead of greatness.

And we wonder why things are the way they are.

  12. Oh, and we love to hide behind Anonymous. I can not take anyone with that name serious. But, if you take the time to comment, I believe you derserve a reply, regardless.

  13. Oh, and I love to have fun playing with you. I can't take you seriously either. Thanks for replying to my comment. I know you love it too! LOL

  14. When more of us get serious, things can change. Go play somewhere else.

  15. Stefan - you remind me of the saying that poop stinks when you stir it up. I guess losing your paper stirred something up in you, unfortunately it wasn't something good. I see your latest poll is about the NAACP. I attended that banquet and saw some great kids from Chester receiving scholarships to help them further their education. I would call that significant. They are also very much involved in education for Chester's children and opposing SB 1 (look it up if you don't know what that is). I didn't see you at the banquet, but then again I wasn't looking for you! Perhaps if you had been there, you would have seen the positive things they are doing, but I guess your time was spent on your ridiculous blog. The Daily Times did not cover the banquet or much else that is positive about the City of Chester, but they jump on negative news. Go figure? And where are you when people come together to heal after tragedies? I guess your sitting somewhere thinking about how do put together another useless blog. Use your voice and any talent you may have for something meaningful. Question - are you a member of the NAACP or any organization that is making a difference in the Chester community? Another question - are you doing anything significant other than writing this blog? What a waste! I agree with Anonymous, you are part of the problem.

  16. I didn’t lose a paper. I chose to stop doing it. After giving up 47 weekends to put out a paper, the time invested wasn’t worth the handsome profit I earned from the advertising. However, I can print a paper at anytime I decide to, which may be very soon.

Read the poll question again. It says that the Chester NAACP banquet is significant. People are voting on whether they see other significant things they’re doing. So far, it appears most do not.

Maybe the voters are misinformed, or the NAACP isn’t getting the word out on what they are doing. Is the banquet the only place they promote themselves?

I get press releases from the NAACP national office regularly. I’ve never received a single press release from the Chester NAACP. Maybe they are just lacking public relations talent. I’d certainly post whatever they’d sent to this blog.

I’m not a reporter!!! You won’t see me attending too many events around town to get stories. I’ve never signed up for that and never will.

I don’t have Chester Spirit money to hire reporters. That’s what makes them so great.

But, I welcome anyone who is interested in Chester events and wants to make a name for themselves as a reporter. Send your stories to me and I’ll be happy to post them with your byline.

And no, you won’t find me joining organizations either.

As you’ve concluded, I just do this blog in my spare time and the rest of my life is a waste. But it's fun.

  17. Thank Anonymous for responding to the NAACP Event. I was there and saw no local papers covering this event. The delcotimes ignored it completely because they were so busy highlighting Chester as the Crime Capital of the World. They would rather put that up than acknowledge the good works our youths and adults are doing in the community. Unfortunately the only blog to cover the event did not get any highlighted attention from the times. The only thing they want to showcase is crime in Chester. Apparently, Chester was used as a city in a series called Supernatural. What a shame!

Seems like you and the times are getting revived up for your summer of crimes in Chester. I guess it sell papers or give you the attention you want. And unfortunately, they'll probably give it to you. Just another repeat of last summer with you guys at the helm.
