Media, PA – Join Dr. Kristin Ball Motley as she presents ‘Helping You Help Yourself – An Rx for Appropriate Medication Use.’
October is American Pharmacist Month and is a time to recognize pharmacists’ commitment to providing outstanding patient care. The theme, Know Your Medicine, Know Your Pharmacist, is the core message of the month.
Motley’s educational program will carry out this theme by using various active learning techniques to educate the audience on appropriate medication use. As the use of prescription drugs rises, there is a growing need to inform patients on how to use their medications correctly.
Unfortunately, many patients do not adhere to their prescribed medication regimens. There are various reasons why people fail to take their medications correctly. These reasons include cost, misinterpreting directions, side effects, forgetfulness, denial of medical condition, poor communication with the health care professionals, and many others. Strategies for resolving these issues will be discussed in the program.
This educational program will teach participants:
• The value of taking prescriptions as prescribed
• How to interpret directions on a prescription label
• How to identify medication side effects
• How to save money on prescription medications
• How herbals and supplements interact with prescription medications
• The importance of discussing medication concerns with a physician or pharmacist

I met this young lady at the YWCA Health Fair. She has truly got it going on. Maybe she can speak with some of the girls at the high schools.
