‘Why Did I Get Married’ squeaked ahead of the rest of the Tyler Perry movies as all of them received about the same amount of votes.
Those results are a testament to Perry’s success in creating movies that fulfill the entertainment niche of his core viewers. The formula is simple and predictable: soap opera-ish dramas featuring average american black families confronted with issues that a lot of everyday black folks struggle with...relationships, family, love, employment, morality, religion, acceptance, children, etc. His movies make you laugh and cry and there’s always some set of characters that seem to be ripped right out of your own life.
The only other obvious revelation from the survey is that his fans didn’t think too highly of him in his cameo role as the Commander of the Star Fleet in the ‘Star Trek’ movie (3 votes).
Although I always saw Perry’s movies as ‘chick-flicks’ since there are no car chases or stuff exploding all over the place, a survey I did for the Chester Spotlight reveled that men love his movies equally as much as women. I never could get into the Madea character but I’m told that lately Madea hasn’t been showing up as much. I’m admittedly way behind on viewing Perry’s movies but I admire the unprecedented success he’s had in his short stint as a movie maker.
If it ain’t broke, don’t break it, and keep doing what you’re doing Tyler Perry.
