Nation's Oldest Black Newspaper Upgrades Website

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Philadelphia Tribune, the nation’s oldest and the Greater Philadelphia region’s largest newspaper serving the African-American community, recently upgraded its website, www.phillytrib.com, to include three-second web page download speeds and encrypted security and reliability features, for a better user experience and information accessibility. In addition, the improved website now has an added capacity to accommodate the newspaper’s growing reader base and Internet traffic, and for upcoming website promotions.

During the upgrading process, which included subscribing to a new hosting channel, The Tribune website experienced episodic downtime. As part of the comprehensive improvement of its website, the paper has also taken steps to back-up the site and its operating systems, to significantly minimize the prospect of future inaccessibility by users.

The Tribune has offered its website to readers since 1996 and was among the first newspapers in the Greater Philadelphia area to offer an electronic edition, an interactive, print-replica of its newspaper, online.

Commenting on the publication’s enhanced new website, Tribune Publisher Robert W. Bogle said, “When it comes to the Philadelphia Tribune website, our goal has always been to provide the best in user experience and information accessibility. To do this, we are constantly looking for ways to increase speed, reliability, functionality and security. We want our users to remember and value their interface and to look to our site for dependable news coverage about the African-American experience – locally, nationally and internationally. We are confident that the steps we took to upgrade our systems will provide our users a better browsing experience, and encourage those who have not visited our site, or infrequent users, to take another look at www.phillytrib.com. We are also confident that our visitors – new and old – will be impressed by the upgrades we’ve introduced.”
