Those of you who have followed my stuff know that I've been trying to get you all to Broadway to see Fela, and that was before it won Tony Awards. Now that Patti LaBelle is playing mother, 'nuf said.
The mother doesn't have a particularly big part in the play but that character gives the play it's most emotional moments. Although Patti doesn't share the traditional african appearance of the woman who performed the part when I saw the play, she is no match for the Patti voice which will bring the house down (I can't image the drama). If you needed a tissue before, bring the entire box of Kleenex now.
