Chester Opens New Soccer Stadium Today - Philadelphia Union Opens at PPL Park

No one offered me a ticket to the game, I had no intentions of buying one, and I have no press credentials. So, all that was left to do was report from the streets (which I enjoy doing anyway).

  1. I was driving home today and on third and central in the city of chester. Stadium ticket holders were on the corner drinking beer they had lawn chairs beer coolers and throwing the empty cans on the ground. Chester Police are present for the loitering and when asked by myself why are they allowed to have open alcoholic beverages. I was told this is bringing alot of money to this city and I should contact the Mayor if I have a problem. I understand the reasoning for the state of emergency it's not for the safety of the residents. It's so ticket holders can come in are city and buy drugs and drink alcohol out in public. I'm very upset since I pay taxes to live here. There should been a state of emergency years ago.

  2. Interesting video. I should be happy for Chester but this doesn't look like what it's cracked up to be just like Harrahs. I don't get it!

  3. It is the one constant complaint I hear thundering around the city, that the "MANDATORY" State of Emergency Curfew set by our city government was just a ruse to allow the Soccer Stadium patrons a safe passage into the city without having to deal with or see let alone interact with the lowly citizens of this "dismal" (city as some think of it)which isn't fair to the thousands of us who live here, since from the events of the last few days, it seems that the only plan in place to "Stop the Violence" is to hold rallies and set a 30day curfew! Yes that should combat the violence and keep us safe....NOT! But aleast we can take comfort in knowing that soon the ramp to the stadium will be done and it's patrons can have safe passage with even riding through our condenm city.

  4. Good job Stefan. The humor, the coverage, it is all around good. Good to see white people return to Chester, spending money, eating soul food, walking around in the CITAY. Even the churches got creative and decided to get in on the action and make some money selling parking spaces.Ummmm, I wonder who was collecting for the parking? Oh well, St. James wrote, "Faith without works is dead." Work it churches.

Good luck Chester! I'm happy to see the change take place for growth in the city. We have to embrace improvement/change in whatever form it come in.

Keep up the good work Stefan. You are a beacon of positive light in Chester. See you in July.

Next, a big multi-level parking lot near the stadium.

  5. I told you earlier on that State of Emergency was not for the people of Chester. It was City Officials using an unfortunate situatiion to look good in the eyes of their French Vanilla constituents. Have the murders stop? No Did anyone get locked up? No So Their plan failed. And now they look like fools.

  6. Let me know when the ramp is done....Chester is the only city in Pa where I place my pistol on the seat when driving through. I would rather hang in north phlly than any place in Chester

  7. Stefan, the video is awesome....you're a natural. I was down there too that day. It was more spur of the moment, but I should have contacted you as I was trying to do the same thing with covering the event. Perhaps next time.
