Chester, PA -- The City of Chester is holding its annual 4th of July Walk/Run along the Delaware River in celebration of the independence of our country. Each year the event promises to provide a day of friendly competition and enjoyment for walkers, runners, and joggers. This year the walk-run will take place at the historical Chester waterfront and continue along the riverwalk to Highland Avenue for a total distance of over two miles.
An important component of the city’s rich history is its waterfront. William Penn first sailed up the Delaware River in the fall of 1682 aboard the ship Welcome and landed on the Chester waterfront at Penn Street just east of Barry Bridge Park. Today the Chester waterfront is home a newly paved riverwalk, which borders PPL Park, an 18,500 seat soccer specific stadium, home to the Philadelphia Union.
Registration on the day of the event will take place at the entrance of Barry Bridge Park at 8:30 am with the actual walk-run to follow at 9:00 am. The walk-run will start at Seaport Drive & Flower Street, continue down to Highland Avenue and then follow along the Riverwalk, finishing at Barry Bridge Park.
The first 100 registrants will receive a t-shirt and prizes will be awarded prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners, males and females. At the event there will be refreshments and giveaways, including goodie bags and commemorative water bottles.   Participants may pre-register by calling 610-447-7724 or visiting www.chestercity.com.
