Today Was Trash Day?

What's the secret City Hall?

Why can't I ever inform my readers, your constituents, that the trash pick up schedule has changed? It's not for a lack of asking. All you need to do is send me an email or phone call and I'd be more than happy to post it.

For four years I thought it was just a Chester Spotlight thing. More and more I see that it's just a lack of communication thing.

I continue to beg you to communicate what you are doing to the people who live here using every FREE means of access you have.

I'm here for you when you're ready! No Charge.

  1. I wish someone would do something about the trash problem in Chester. I recently did spring cleaning in my yard and couldn't get the "trashmen" to take it, even though it was neatly bagged. I had to call the city to come and get it but was told that they would only take a small portion of it. Six bags is the limit and if there is anymore there, they won't take any of it. I pay 3 trash fees yearly since it is a triplex but can't get anyone to pick it up. My next door neighbor has at least twenty bags waiting to be picked up. I saw the "trashmen" walk by and kick the bag and decide that it wasn't "trash". After that, stray animals tear at the bags and it's a big mess. This is no way to run a "SANITATION" Dept.
While I'm rambling, has anyone noticed the sickening smell from the trash to steam plant when the wind blows the wrong way? It's worse than Marcus Hook in the old days! They can't be within Clean Air limits. Who's monitoring them anyway? I can smell it from 95. Do you think anybody is going to sit in that stink to watch a soccer game?

  2. One of the very first posts on this blog is 'Chester is so Trashy'.
I'm going to post the Chester Spotlight article 'It Stinks Around Here' that has a phone number to call when you smell the funk. Technically, it's a great facility but to allow it to be build in a densely populated area already surrounded by industry takes balls.

  3. Tom 19061, I totally agree with you about the city not picking up trash. I called the Highway dept to have some bulk trash picked up and no one showed in 3 days. I called back and resheduled, only to be served with a noticed from the city that I would fined if I didm't get the trashed picked. up. I guess I was suppose to go get a city truck, pick up my trash , and go dump it for them? What a joke!!
    Tired of the run-a-round.

  4. Monday was trash day for me and after watching the trashmen walk by my trash, I called the highway dept. and was given the number of the contractor. Someone came out and tried to tell me that my trash wasn't trash. It was neatly stacked in heavy duty bags and the guy told me that 'you just can't put your trash out any old kinda way'. He finally picked it up but after asking him to pick up the trash behind my neighbors house, he told me 'that's nasty' and I would have to call the city to pick it up. What a joke! No wonder the alleys in Chester are such a mess. Here's a suggestion, why not have a city truck follow the trash truck and whatever the trashmen decide isn't 'trash', the city truck could pick up. Is it me or does this seem silly?
