A Play about Chester History

On Thursday, May 27 at the Chester Senior Center on 7th and Hayes, “Hoodwinked,” a play by Dr. Amanda Kemp, will be performed.
This play expands the overview of Black Chester history, beginning in the 1910’s, but focusing primarily on the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. It will investigate the 1918 race riots, long term trends such as white flight, housing, job discrimination and changing family roles for women as told by seniors at Chester Senior Center.
The 10:00 AM performance will feature an intergenerational audience, possibly with children from the Chester Upland Charter School of Performing Arts.
The performance is made possible by a $3,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Humanities Council and the Council on the Arts.
For more information, contact Jamee Nowell-Smith at the Center -610.497.3550.
