Mr. Roots, I think this is so unfair to the Mayor of Chester. Every year, the Mayor gives out keys to the city. Last year, Tyreke's brother received one for his work with youth education. I am sure they are going to give Tyreke an award this year.
Personally, the should come back to Chester and do something for the community. It makes me sick to my stomach that they do nothing but pay for a basketball program or two. It's much more work that needs to be done in Chester. Maybe that's where your story should be.
Fair or Fact? Hasn't Mayor Johnson beat Mayor Butler to the punch in recognizing Mr. Evans at city hall? Those were my only words.
To be fair, i expect to post Mayor Butler's recognition if and when it happens. If he has already sent a letter of congratulations, I was not made aware of it.
Strangely, I've been a member of the press for four years and I never received a press release about Tyreke's brother receiving a key to the city. This is the first I've heard of it. Otherwise, you would have seen it in the Chester Spotlight if I did.
Feel free to submit a story on Chester's professional millionaire athletes contributions to Chester. I'll be happy to post it.
Mr. Roots, thanks for responding. Perhaps you did not attend the ceremony, but I just looked it up on the Daily Times website. A key to the city was given to Eric Evans (Tyreke Brother) for mentorship and education program for athletes? It's on the Daily Times website. From the article, it appears that the city honors several people at one time. The Mayor is a huge basketball fan, so I am sure he sent a letter.
Did you check with City Hall to see if they sent a letter of congratulations or attempted to coordinate with Tyreke's schedule for a official ceremony? or perhaps you missed that story like you missed the story on Tyreke's brother receiving an award.

Now that's the kinda feedback I'd like to get more of around here. We all can learn from each other if we just speak up.
It's still discouraging that press releases only seem to go to the Daily Times when there are other outlets to get the word out. The new irony is that the Daily Times editor sends me releases to post that he knows won't get in the paper. Oh well, we'll get there eventually.
I will send a note to Emily Harris to get a copy of the letter that Anonymous is sure was sent by the Mayor to congratulate Tyreke. With their permission I'll post it here. If he hasn't sent one, I'll encourage him to do so and possibly get his plans for recognizing Tyreke's accomplishments if he plans to visit Chester this summer. With his Team USA commitments, he may not have much time to stop by.
