Future Doctor Heading to UCLA

Congratulations to Jeray Willis, son of Jeray and Mica Willis, who has been selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine for ten days this summer in Los Angeles at UCLA.

I caught up with the 10th grader last night during his work out with the FiDonce Player Development talent (Pooh Evans’ program) where he is preparing to join the varsity basketball team at Salesianum High School in Wilmington next fall.

Jeray’s goal is to become an anesthesiologist and was nominated by his teachers to participate in the forum.

What he’s looking forward to the most in LA is staying in a college dorm, meeting a lot of students his age from around the country and witnessing an actual knee replacement surgery.

The National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine (NYLF/MED) introduces outstanding high school students to the world of medicine. This 10-day program familiarizes students with professionals from some of the nation’s top medical centers and faculty from renowned institutions of learning.

With close cooperation from many prestigious and technologically-advanced hospitals, research facilities and medical schools, the Forum challenges students to learn about a broad range of topics, including educational requirements, career options, clinical practice and complex ethical and legal issues facing the medical profession today. Students discuss global epidemics, cures for life-threatening diseases, life as a resident, medical specialties and primary care with current physicians and patients.
